Official Bull Riding Competition Rules
Registration & Identification
- All participants must register with the bull operator at least 30 minutes before the competition begins.
- Upon registration, each competitor will receive a stamp and rider number.
- Your rider number will serve as your official identification throughout the competition and help maintain competition order.
Waiver & Rider Agreement
- All riders must complete and sign the official bull riding waiver before participating.
- By entering the competition, all riders agree to follow and abide by all competition rules and regulations.
Practice Rounds
- Each rider will receive two practice rides to become comfortable and familiar with the mechanical bull.
- Practice rounds are not scored.
Bull Operation & Fairness
- The mechanical bull will operate in AUTO MODE at a standardized difficulty setting.
- All riders will compete under the same difficulty conditions to ensure fairness.
- The standard maximum ride time is 45 seconds.
- If multiple riders reach the 45-second limit, a sudden death round will take place at a higher difficulty level.
Scoring & Timing
- A rider’s best time is defined as the longest continuous ride from the moment the bull starts until the rider:
- Dismounts,
- Releases their grip, or
- Places both hands on the rope.
- Ride times will be recorded using a stopwatch and documented beside each competitor’s name.
- The weekly Top 2 riders will be featured on social media along with their names and ride times.
Elimination Rounds
- Each rider will receive two scored rides.
- The rider’s best ride time out of the two attempts will count toward scoring.
- Riders with the lowest scores will be eliminated.
- A total of four rounds will take place each week.
Semi-Finals & Finals
- The Top 4 riders from each round will advance to the semi-finals and continue competing weekly leading up to the Grand Final on August 14th.
- The Top 2 finalists from each week will move on to the next competition round.
Championship Round
- The Top 4 finalists will participate in a coin toss to determine riding order.
- Each finalist will receive:
- One practice ride
- One scored competition ride
- The rider with the highest recorded time will be crowned the Bull Riding Champion.

Official Riding Rules
One-Hand Rule
- Riders are only permitted to use one hand on the rope at all times.
- The rider’s free hand must remain in the air.
- Any contact between the free hand and the bull is prohibited.
- First offense: Warning
- Second offense: Disqualification from the competition
Maximum Ride Time
- The maximum standard ride time is 45 seconds.
- If multiple riders achieve the maximum time, the bull difficulty will increase for a tie-breaker round.
Rider Behaviour
- Riders must follow all competition and venue/bar rules.
- Reckless, dangerous, or inappropriate behaviour will result in immediate disqualification.
Attire & Safety
- No shoes with sharp edges or objects are permitted on the bull.
- No glassware or drinks are allowed near or on the mechanical bull.
- Riders must follow all safety instructions provided by staff and operators.
